Behind our 18th Century townhouse can be found a 15th Century cottage which has been transformed into quirky 21st Century accommodation.

Traditionally a great many city centre properties in Canterbury had what was known as a “backhouse” where much of the work of the household was carried on. Ours is one of the few that survive and has been revamped into a chic place to stay.

Downstairs the sitting room is decorated in soft shades, with comfortable places to sit and a cosy woodburning stove for winter evenings. There are novels to read, guidebooks to dip into, and an Ipod dock so you can enjoy your favourite music.

Off the sitting room is a modern wetroom with lovely mosaic tiles, thick white towels, handmade soap and Noble Isle toiletries.

Up a steep flight of cottage stairs, the bedroom is decorated in black and white with an antique glass chandelier and dark wood furniture. The kingsize bed has a handmade mattress (many of our guests say it is the most comfortable bed they have ever slept on) with lovely crisp cotton sheets, snuggly duvet and down pillows. There is a digital radio and flat screen television with DVD player, and if you need to work, the whole cottage has wifi access.

We try to be as carbon-neutral as possible. This does mean that although we would hate you to be cold, we ask you not to turn up the room thermostat more than you need. It also means we reuse and recycle as much as we can and that our towels are often line dried and so they do not have that tumble dried softness.

We have tried to make it somewhere we would like to stay but if there is anything else you need we will try to help.
